Here’s how to make raspberry jam in an easy and delicious way:
Ingredients:
- 1 kg raspberries (you can use any type: red, black, or a combination of both)
- 800 grams of sugar
- Juice of one lemon
How to prepare the berries:
Gently wash the berries with cold water to remove dirt and impurities.
Place the berries in a colander to dry.
Mix the berries with the sugar:
In a large bowl, place the berries and add the sugar and lemon juice.
Gently stir the mixture until the sugar is combined with the berries.
Leave the mixture to rest for two to three hours, or you can leave it in the refrigerator overnight. This helps the berries release their juice.
Cook the jam:
Place the mixture in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Stir the mixture constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture begins to boil.
Reduced the heat and left to cook on low heat for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
While cooking, remove any foam that forms on the surface with a spoon.
Readiness test:
To test the doneness of the jam, place a teaspoon of it on a cold plate and leave it for a few seconds. If the consistency is firm when you move it with your finger and is not runny, the jam is ready.
If it is still runny, leave it to cook for a few more minutes and repeat the test.
Filling:
Remove the jam from the heat and leave it to cool slightly.
Pour the jam into sterilized jars while they are still warm, and seal the jars tightly.
After the jars have completely cooled, store them in a cool, dry place.
Tips:
You can mash the berries a little if you prefer a smoother jam, or leave them as they are to get whole berries in the jam.
If you want to reduce the sugar, you can adjust the amount to taste, but remember that sugar helps the jam to last longer.
Raspberry jam is great with toast or croissants, and can be used as a filling for desserts such as cakes and pies.
