Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying (if deep frying)
Optional toppings
Powdered sugar
Cinnamon sugar (mix sugar and cinnamon)
Glazing (Powdered sugar + milk + vanilla)
Chocolate or white chocolate
Prepare the batter
In a large bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (if using).
In another bowl, mix together 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup melted butter, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and stir until well combined. Avoid overmixing; some lumps are acceptable.
Preheat and Prepare
If frying, heat vegetable oil in a deep saucepan to 350°F (175°C). If using a mini donut maker, preheat according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Fry or Bake
To fry: Using a piping bag or spoon, carefully drop the dough into the hot oil, forming small rounds. Fry the dough for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove dough from oil and drain on paper towels.
Butter a mini donut pan and fill each cavity 2/3 full with batter. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
Adding toppings
While the donuts are still warm, dip them in powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or dip them in frosting. To make the chocolate sauce, melt chocolate and drizzle over the cooled donuts.
Not only are these mini donuts easy to make, they’re also so much fun to customize! Whether you fry or bake them, they’re sure to be a hit at your next gathering or as a delicious snack. Enjoy your baking adventure!
