Philadelphia Cheese Egg Rolls

Do you enjoy egg rolls? I love them and wanted to make something unique and delicious. Yesterday, I made these delicious Philadelphia Cheese Egg Rolls, and my family devoured them.

They’re perfect for a game day party (football season is coming) or a fall patio party. Who needs a summer patio party when you can have one in the fall with a campfire and marshmallows?

These beauties come together quickly, and the filling can be made ahead of time.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped
  • 24 egg rolls
  • 12 slices American cheese
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil for frying

How to Make Philadelphia Cheese Egg Rolls:

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the beef, separating it as much as possible, until browned and the size of peas, about 5 to 7 minutes. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Stir gently, then remove from skillet.

Melt butter in skillet. Add onions and bell peppers; stir until browned, 5 to 7 minutes. Return meat mixture to skillet and stir until combined. Let filling cool while you prepare wrappers.

Lay egg rolls on a flat surface. Top each roll with 1/2 slice of American cheese.

Add 3 tablespoons of filling to top of each egg roll. Pull bottom left corner over filling and fold sides in, moistening edges with water as you roll; roll tightly.

Heat oil to about 1 inch high in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add 3 to 4 egg rolls at a time and fry until browned, 3 to 4 minutes. Repeat with remaining egg rolls.

Tips for the best Philly egg rolls:

Steaks – Rib or sirloin steaks can also be used. Even ground beef strips work. Cut the steaks into bite-sized pieces for easy, filling eating.

Cheese – Substitute Monterey Jack for sliced ​​Provolone or Swiss cheese or add pepper jack cheese.

Peppers and onions – Add color with red, yellow, or orange peppers. Try using red onions and cutting them into bite-sized pieces for easy eating.

Wrappers – Don’t worry about folding the egg rolls. The instructions are usually on the back of the package. Be sure to use a little water on the edges to seal them.

Sauce – This sauce is perfect for dipping. The possibilities are endless. Try your favorite cheese sauce, ranch dressing, horseradish sauce, or barbecue sauce.
