How to make mayonnaise at home in simple steps:
Ingredients:
- 1 egg (preferably at room temperature)
- 1 cup vegetable oil (sunflower oil or olive oil)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice or white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon mustard (optional, to add flavor)
- Salt to taste
- White or black pepper (optional)
How to prepare:
Place the egg in a blender bowl or a deep bowl if you are using a hand blender.
Add lemon juice or vinegar to the egg. If you prefer, you can add mustard at this stage.
Start mixing the ingredients on medium speed using a hand blender or regular blender.
While mixing, start adding the oil very slowly, in a thin, steady stream. It is important to add it gradually to ensure that the mayonnaise is emulsified and does not separate.
Continue mixing until the mayonnaise thickens and takes on a creamy consistency.
Add salt and pepper to taste, and mix again for a few seconds.
You can now use the mayonnaise immediately or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Notes:
Be sure to use a lightly flavored oil if you don’t want the oil to overpower the mayonnaise.
